Miami Springs was founded by land developer and aeroplane designer Glen Hammond Curtiss.The City of Miami Springs is known for its natural waters. The pure water supplied to the whole Miami area until very recent years came from Miami Springs. This pure water was found by some engineers hired by Curtiss who was very concerned about getting healthy waters for residents and visitors.
Miami Springs is surrounded by the Miami International Airport to the south, the Miami canal to the north, and the Florida East Coast Railway canal on the west.

The Village of Miami Shores is located in the northeast side of Miami-Dade County and delimited on the east by Biscayne Bay. It is situated just minutes from Miami Beach, downtown Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Miami International Airport.
